Cuffing Season Is Here

November 09, 2021

The cold weather is about to set in and with it, the return of cuffing season. Cuffing season is a recent phenomenon where single people start looking for a serious partner to settle down (or snuggle up) with until the warm weather is back. The term became popular in 2017, when it was shortlisted by Collins Dictionary for Word of the Year. The season is believed to last from November until February and was given its name owing to one’s desire to be tied down or “cuffed” during the winter months. Whether you’re a believer in cuffing season or not, we’re here to remind you that there’s no one better to stay warm with this winter than yourself. That’s why we’re officially declaring that cuffing season isn’t just about finding temporary solace in a partner, but about appreciating and loving yourself. So without further ado, check out a few tips to enjoy cuffing season solo.

Tips for Going Solo This Cuffing Season

  • Date Yourself Instead: Plan cute dates with yourself. Go to the movies, a museum, or even take yourself out for a fancy meal (or have it delivered). You deserve to feel special, and you don’t need someone else to make you feel that way.
  • Do the Things You Love: Prioritize activities that bring you joy. If you’ve been putting work above all else for a while, take a step back and think about what you love to do in your free time - be it running, knitting, singing, or even writing poetry. From there, develop a plan to make time for it on a regular basis.
  • De-stress: Beyond thinking about the activities that bring you joy, consider the habits or hobbies that specifically help you cope with stress. Stress levels are way up due to the pandemic and will only be exacerbated by the cold, dark days of winter. Have a few coping mechanisms in your back pocket. They could include downloading a meditation app, embarking on a 30-day mindfulness challenge, or booking a biweekly Zoom session with a therapist.
  • Engage in Some “Me Time”: What better way to pass the time than spending an evening in with yourvibrator? Solo pleasure is not only known to reduce stress but is a way of exploring your sexual preferences. Plus, it feels pretty damn amazing.
  • Prioritize Your Relationships: Platonic relationships can be just as fulfilling as romantic ones. This cuffing season, take the time to reconnect with old friends or family members you haven’t spoken to in a while, and prioritize the close friends and family you already have around you. You can also take this time to meet new people by joining a league, team, or other type of group or club you’ve been too nervous to try.
  • Re-invigorate Your Space: Give your home (or even just your bedroom) a makeover. If you don’t have the budget to completely redecorate, focus on a few small but impactful pieces, such as new bedding or a piece of art. Alternatively, rearranging your furniture is another way to bring fresh energy to a space (and bonus - it’s free!).

If there’s one takeaway here, it’s to put the focus on loving yourself this cuffing season. Treat yourself, be patient with yourself, and stay warm! (Personally, we’ll be hibernating in fluffy slippers and a tie dye sweatsuit until spring.)
