New Year, New You

January 05, 2022

With New Year’s Eve approaching, you’re bound to hear a lot of talk about “new year, new you.” No matter how you feel about that phrase, we want to start by saying that you’re already perfect so there’s really no need for a “new you” next year. However, if you’re inclined to use the New Year as an excuse to kickstart some important personal or professional goals, then we’re 100% behind you! Below, we’ve put together some tips to help you achieve success should you choose to embrace the “new year, new you” philosophy.

Doing “New Year, New You” Right

  • Set realistic goals: The key for setting and achieving goals is starting small. Other ways to stay motivated include talking about your goals with friends or family, or finding a buddy with the same goals to join you on your journey. As an example, many people make New Year’s resolutions relating to their diet and physical fitness. If you want to cut your sugar intake or hit the gym, ease into it and create a realistic plan that won’t leave you discouraged the minute you deviate from it. (And if you do decide to become a gym rat, be sure to pack a set of wipes in your bag to keep you fresh between workouts.)
  • Prioritize your mental health: Your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. In 2022, take the time to learn how to ask for help when you need it. If you’ve been considering therapy, take the plunge and book a session with a therapist. Surround yourself with people you love and who love you back, and perhaps let go of people you’ve outgrown. Say “no” to things that don’t serve you (or that you simply don’t want to do) and say “yes” to things that excite you, even if they make you a little nervous. Dedicate the new year to being a happier and healthier version of yourself by putting your mental health first.
  • Make time for self-care: Dedicate time each week to doing something you love. The key with self-care is developing a routine around it. To get started, think of something you do just for you. It can be anything, from painting to yoga to binge-watching Selling Sunset. It can even be enjoying a little one-on-one time with your fave vibrator. Whatever it is that brings you joy and helps you relax, schedule it in your calendar. Think of it as a standing date with yourself. It can be daily or weekly, just try your best to develop a routine that includes self-care (it’ll make it a lot easier to convince yourself to do it regularly).
Whether you end up growing into a new version of yourself this year or not, know that you’re enough just as you are. So cheers to 2022! Here’s hoping for a better year ahead (let’s be honest, the bar is pretty low after 2021).
